## How to calculate your BMI using a formula?

## Example of how to calculate BMI

2) Now you need to substitute the received data into the formula

BMI = 703 * 120 (lbs) / (62 * 62) (in) = 22

## How to interpret BMI calculations?

Now that you have calculated your body mass index, you can determine how much your body weight differs from normal using the special range table below. This classification was created by the World Health Organization and published in a special report in 2000 1. The main purpose of this classification is to facilitate the statistical classification of people who are underweight, overweight or obese.

If your BMI is below 18.5 (underweight), it means that you may be malnourished or have a higher risk of respiratory disease, digestive disorders, or weakened immune function.

## What is a good body mass index for men and women?

The formula for calculating body mass index does not take gender into account. Therefore, for men and women, a healthy index value will be in the range of 18.5-25. Moreover, according to research published by The Lancet in 2009, the optimal BMI range is 22.5-25 2.

## Body mass index for teenagers and kids

For children and adolescents, two main factors play a key role in determining the BMI indicator: age and gender. Often, they will have a high BMI, which will allow them to be classified as overweight or obese. However, the real reason for the overestimation is their increased muscle mass.

Secondly, the formula does not take into account the location and position of body fat in the human body and their effect on various diseases. For example, fat accumulation in the lower parts of the body can lead to heart problems and diabetes, while fat accumulation in the lower parts of the body can lead to asthma and high blood pressure.

Finally, BMI does not take into account many different factors that influence the distribution of body fat and its calculations. For example, it can be people with physical disabilities.
